Engage to Change Lead Ambassador Gerraint Jones Griffiths chairing an event In June I attended several events. On the 21st of June I chaired Learning Disability Wales’s Covid-19 research event – Policy Implications. This event was on online on Microsoft Teams. The event was aimed at professionals and the public.  Researchers from Cardiff University and the University of South Wales attended the event. The researchers shared their findings on the effects of the pandemic on people with learning disabilities. The researchers highlighted the experience of people of all ages with learning disabilities. They also shared concerns that people with learning disabilities had told them.

The event was interesting and there were lots of good discussions. The researchers highlighted that people with learning disabilities have become even more isolated during the pandemic. The research showed that some people with learning disabilities are not digitally included. This caused isolation and loneliness through the lockdown.

I attended the Gwent Internship Steering Group Meeting on the 23rd of June. At the meeting, I got to explain what I do in my role as Lead Ambassador for Engage to Change. At the meeting I got to learn more about the supported internships which was exciting. Since I attended Coleg Gwent when I was studying Independent Living Skills and Business Administration at the Blaenau Gwent Learning Zone, it is exciting for me to be working alongside Coleg Gwent. I am looking forward to visiting the intern’s workplace and meeting the new interns.

In June I held Two Fun Hour sessions.  Through the summer we will be holding one session a month. The sessions will have a different theme each month to make things fun and entertaining. The next session is on Wednesday the 21st of July 2021 from 12.30 until 1.30 pm.   The theme for July is on Drag as the 16th of July 2021 is National Drag Day! I am excited about getting dressed up and hope lots of people can join in.
